Summary of Clinical Use
Amodiaquine does not have FDA or EMA approval but is the active antimalarial compound contained in a number of drugs that are approved in jurisdictions in Africa (Kenya and Tanzania), Colombia and Pakistan. It is used to treat uncomplicated P. falciparum malaria, usually in combination with artesunate. Amodiaquine should not be used as a preventative therapy. Recommendations for the use of amodiaquine + artesunate are provided in the WHO Guidelines for the treatment of malaria [5].
