Synonyms: IL-12 p70
Compound class:
Endogenous peptide in human, mouse or rat
Comment: This is the signature member of the IL-12 family of cytokines. Structurally it is a heterodimer consisting of IL-12A (p35) and IL-12B (p40) subunits. An interchain disulphide bond between cysteine residue 74 in the IL-12A chain and 177 in the IL-12B chain link the heterodimer. IL-27 and IL-23 share homology with IL-12 at the subunit, receptor, and signalling levels, but each performs specific roles in the regulation of immune responses to infection, inflammation and also in the pathophysiology of autoimmune disorders [1].
