Synonyms: catabolin | interleukin-1 beta
Compound class: Endogenous peptide in human, mouse or rat
Comment: IL-1β is an IL-1 family cytokine produced from the IL1B gene. It is produced by activated macrophages as a proprotein which is cleaved by cytosolic caspase 1 to the mature, active molecule.
|IL-1β is a very important mediator of the inflammatory response . Increased production of IL-1β underlies the pathology of a number of different autoinflammatory syndromes and inflammatory mechanisms that drive atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease , so it is the target of drug development efforts. Anti-IL-1β drugs already approved include rilonacept and canakinumab.|
