Umeclidinium is an anticholinergic drug, used in combination with vilanterol as a combined single medication (marketed as Anoro Ellipta®) indicated for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) [1]. Umeclidinium is also available in a single agent medication called Incruse Ellipta®.

Umeclidinium is an antagonist of the muscarinic acetylcholine receptors. The drug acts on muscarinic acetylcholine receptors in lung tissue, blocking the effect of endogenous acetylcholine, and reducing parasympathetic contraction of airway smooth muscle. This action helps patients to breath more easily.
