Immunopharmacology Ligand
Comment: Vm24 is a 36 amino acid peptide toxin that was isolated from the venom of the Mexican scorpion Vaejovis mexicanus smithi, and which was subsequently produced by chemical synthesis [1]. It acts as a selective blocker of the Kv1.3 potassium channel. Vm24 can be used to study the biological processes that are modulated by Kv1.3 blockade and to help identify the pathways that are key to Kv1.3's participation in normal and pathological states.

Immunopharmacology Comments
Vm24 is a potent immunosuppresive peptide that selectively blocks the Kv1.3 channels on human T cells and prevents T cell activation. It reduces delayed-type hypersensitivity reactions in vivo (in rats) [2]. In relation to autoimmunity Vm24 appears to attenuate the CD4+ effector memory T (TEM) cell response to TCR stimulation [3]. TEM cells are recognised as key mediators of autoimmune diseases.
