Summary of Clinical Use Click here for help
Camicinal was assessed in clinical trials as a treatment for delayed gastric emptying (gastroparesis). Click here to link to ClinicalTrials.gov's full list of camicinal trials. It did not appear to progress beyond Phase 2 despite evidence that it accelerated gastric emptying and increased glucose absorption in target patients [2].
Mechanism Of Action and Pharmacodynamic Effects Click here for help
Gastroparesis can occur when the vagus nerve (which controls stomach contractions) or muscles of the stomach and intestines fail to function normally. This slows or stops gastro-intestinal transit in the digestive tract. Gastroparesis can be the result of autonomic neuropathy which is associated with diabetes, Parkinson's disease and other diseases, or as a result of abdominal surgery. Camicinal-induced activation of the motilin receptor stimulates contraction of gut smoooth muscle, to improve gut motility [1,3].
