Used in the treatment of psychosis and schizophrenia. Due to the risk of elongation of the QTc interval, this drug should only be used in patients who have failed to respond to other antipsychotic medications. Due to its cardiotoxicity the drug has been withdrawn from sale in several countries. Thioridazine also has antiemetic activity.

Antagonist at dopamine receptors and α-adrenoceptors in the brain. Drug action inhibits the release of hypothalamic and hypophyseal hormones.
