Post-translational Modification
The production of biologically active FSH, LH and TSH requires the FSHβ, LHβ and TSHβ subunits and the common α subunits to assemble to form the heterodimeric hormone. The common α subunit is glycosylated at asparagines 52 and 78, and disulfide bond formation occurs between cysteine residues at positions 7 and 31; 10 and 60; 28 and 82; 32 and 84 and 59 and 87. It then assembles with the various β subunits to form the biologically active FSH, LH and TSH heterodimers.
