Tegafur is generally used in combination with uracil to induce cytostatic effects on cancer cells. It does not have marketing authorisation in the US. In the EU, a combination named Teysuno® that contains tegafur + gimeracil + oteracil, is approved for the treatment of advanced gastric cancer. For this indication Teysuno is administered alongside cisplatin.
