Immunopharmacology Comments
IL1RL1 (ST2) is the ligand binding subunit of the functional receptor for IL-33. It is mainly expressed on mast cells, eosinophils and other immune cells [2]. The ST2/IL-33 axis is recognized as playing an important role in the development/exacerbation of IgE-dependent inflammation such as asthma and atopic dermatitis [1,3]. Blockade of ST2 (and/or IL-33; see our comment regarding investigational anti-IL-33 mAb AMG-282) represent potential novel mechanisms for pharmaceutical intervention to suppress allergy and mast cell-eosinophil interplay.
