Fleroxacin was introduced for clinical use in 1987 but was subsequently withdrawn in most countries due to severe side effects including phototoxicity [3]. Clinical evaluation found it to be an effective treatment for a wide variety of infections including, urinary tract infections, gonorrhoea, gastrointestinal and respiratory tract infections [1].
