The national agency of Italy has approved rufloxacin hydrochloride (trade name Monos®) but only for use when other treatment options are unavailable. It is indicated in the treatment of acute uncomplicated cystitis and respiratory tract infections, caused by susceptible bacteria. The drug is not approved by the US FDA or the EMA. Both agencies have issued restrictions on the use of medicines containing fluoroquinolones, due to serious side effects [2-3]. |
