The WIZ transcription factor is involved in regulating trancriptional activity via modulating interactions with DNA-binding transcription factors and transcription corepressors. It is also a component of the G9A (EHMT2)/GLP (EHMT1) H3K9 methyltransferase complex. WIZ participates in repression of fetal hemoglobin (HbF) expression. Targeted degradation of WIZ protein is being explored as a mechanism to reactivate HbF expression as a therapy for Sickle cell disease [2].
