Immunopharmacology Comments
The major biological role of ACER1 is that of maintaining skin homeostasis via regulation of keratinocyte differentiation [1]. ACER1 is included in GtoImmuPdb because of its involvement in generating the sphingolipid sphingosine, which is subsequently phosphorylated (by sphingosine kinase) to the bioactive lipid mediator S1P [3]. S1P is a major regulator of the vascular and immune systems. In the immune system S1P activation of its receptor S1P1R promotes trafficking of T and B cells from the lymphoid organs into the lymphatic vessels.
