Blocking binding of IgG-Fc to the Fc fragment of IgG receptor and transporter (FCGRT; a.k.a. neonatal Fc receptor and FcRn) accelerates degradation and clearance of circulating IgG. This is a strategy that is under investigation for potential to treat IgG-mediated autoimmune conditions by removing circulating pathogenic IgG autoantibodies.
