Synonyms: Aβ(1-16) | N-Aβ
Compound class:
Peptide
Comment: This is a 16 amino acid N-terminal fragment of amyloid β (Aβ) that is found in human cerebrospinal fluid [3-4]. The C-terminal lysine is is rapidly removed by carboxypeptidase, so the 15-mer is more abundant than the 16-mer. It is proposed that this truncated form of Aβ can block the neuronal instability caused by oligomeric Aβ1-42 that is mediated via interactions with α7-containing nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR), and that this mechanism may offer potential against memory loss in Aβ-associated neurodegenarative disease.
