Compound class:
Peptide
Comment: SI5α-b is a small (7 amino acids) peptide that binds to the receptor-binding domain (RBD; specifically residues Y453, Q498 and N501) of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein and thereby blocks its interaction with angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) [1]. It exhibits antiviral activity in vitro, in an assay of Vero E6 cell infection by the pangolin coronavirus virus GX_P2V.

Bioactivity Comments |
The ability of SI5α-b to inhibit RBD-ACE2 binding was determined in a competition ELISA, but no IC50 was generated [1]. The EC50 for antiviral activity in the Vero E6/GX_P2V coronavirus model was 1.52 μM. |
