Immunopharmacology Comments
CD6 is a co-stimulatory molecule, predominantly expressed on lymphocytes and associated with autoimmune responses. CD6 interacts with activated leucocyte-cell adhesion molecule (ALCAM/CD166), found on antigen presenting cells. This interaction induces the production of proinflammatory cytokines [2], prostaglandins, leukotrienes and oxygen free radicals.
Druggability is indicated by approval of the anti-CD6 monoclonal antibody itolizumab to treat psoriasis.
