thiethylperazine is an approved drug (FDA (1961))
Compound class:
Synthetic organic
Comment: Thiethylperazine is a phenothiazine class antiemetic. Experiments in a mouse model suggest it may have potential to clear amyloid-β (Aβ) load in Alzheimer's disease [1].

Mechanism Of Action and Pharmacodynamic Effects ![]() |
Thiethylperazine is a dopamine antagonist. The antiemetic effect may be associated with central antidopaminergic actions, with potential activity within the medullary chemoreceptor trigger zone (controls the vomiting center). A novel drug action is reported by Krohn et al (2011). This study shows that thiethylperazine-induced activation of the transport protein Abcc1 (an ATP-binding cassette transporter aka Mrp1), in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease (AD) reduces the cerebral amyloid-β (Aβ) load [1]. |
