Membrane bound O-acyltransferases

The membrane bound O-acyltransferase (MBOAT) proteins form an evolutionarily conserved family of acyltransferase enzymes [1-2]. In humans there are eight MBOAT genes. MBOATs catalyse the transfer of an acyl group from an acyl-coenzyme or accessory protein to their target substrates. Family members are involved in many biological processes, including neutral lipid biosynthesis, protein/peptide acylation and phospholipid re-modelling.
